In 1992, he founded the chamber orchestra “Nuove Musiche”, where he is the conductor in Belgium and overseas.

He received valuable instruction from Frank Shipway and from Yuri Simonov and regularly collaborates with the opera house “la Monnaie”, the “Opéra Royal de Wallonie”, “The Flemish Opera”, the Russian Opera House of Kazan and the Chinese Opera House in Shanghai. He was the conductor of the “Opera Mobile” and is currently the conductor in the opera production house “Idée Fixe”.

Eric Lederhandler was nominated the first chosen guest conductor at the Vidin State Philharmonic Orchestra in Bulgaria and he still collaborates with many orchestras:  the Turkish Symphonic Orchestra from Adana, the Noord Nederlands Orchestra and the Limburg Symphonic Orchestra in Holland, the Sewanee Orchestra in the USA, the “Deutsche Kammerorchester” in Germany, the Liepaja Symphonic Orchestra in Lithuania, the “Czech Virtuosi” in the Czech Republic, the “Orchestre Régional de l’Ile de France”, the “Bell’Arte” Orchestra , the Philharmonic Orchestra in Monte-Carlo , the Orchestre National de Lorraine in Metz , the Oltenia Filarmonica in Craiova (Roumenia) ,  the Cairo Symphony Orchestra (Egypt) , the Central Philharmonic Orchestra, Beijing, the Beijing Symphonic Orchestra, the Shanghai Symphonic Orchestra, the Xiamen Philharmonic Orchestra and the Chinese National Symphony Orchestra. He is regularly invited as a guest at the Conservatoire in Sichuan, China, where he conducts the orchestra and where he gives master classes in conducting. These projects are supported by the Belgian French-Speaking Community.

In Belgium, he has conducted the “Ensemble Vocal” of the RTBF and the choirs of the Royal Conservatoire of Brussels. He has collaborated as guest director with the Royal Chamber Orchestra of Wallonie, the Symphonic Orchestra of the Royal Conservatoire and the Belgian National Orchestra.

Kristina is a keen chamber musician and has worked in partnership with such renowned artists as Isaac Stern, Gidon Kremer, Yo Yo Ma, Yuri Bashmet, Leiv Ove Andsnes, Maxim Rysanov, Boris Brovtsyn, Roman Mints, Janine Jansen, Michael Collins, Isabelle van Keulen, Julian Rachlin, Dmitry Sitkovetsky, Bruno Giuranna, Misha Maisky, Nikolaj Znaider, Tatyana Grindenko, Alina Ibragimova, Katya Apekisheva, Jacob Katsnelson, Oleg Maisenberg among others, and has performed at the festivals such as Lockenhaus, Gstaad, Salzburg, Verbier, Basel, Jerusalem, Amsterdam Cello Biënnale, Utrecht, Spitalfields, Cheltenham, Aldeburgh and Homecoming.

Kristina is also a member of Trio Palladio.

Kristina has been an avid promoter of new music. She made a number of world premieres, among them cello concertos by Dobrinka Tabakova, Kristaps Pētersons, Pēteris Plakidis and Artem Vassiliev. Her recording of cello concerto by Dobrinka Tabakova which was released on ECM label reached number 2 in the UK classical charts and did receive a GRAMMY nomination. Besides this CD Kristina has recorded for Bis, ONYX, Harmonia Mundi, Quartz and BMG labels.

Born in Riga, Kristina graduated from Latvian Academy of Music and Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. She is a winner of many awards including Latvian Philharmonic Young Musician of the Year, Latvian Television competition “Alternativa”, Carmel International Competition, Musicians Benevolent Fund and Lord Mayor’s Prize. Kristina is a two time laureate of Grand Music Award (Lielā Mūzikas Balva), the highest prize given by the Latvian State in the field of music (2005; 2007).

Since 2007 Kristina combines her busy career with a principal cello position in London Philharmonic Orchestra.
